MAN LIKE DEVIN

Devin Morrison aka Man-Like-Devin is a songwriter, guitarist and collector of Jamaican music born and raised in Los Angeles, CA.. After decades of recording and touring with L.A. roots-reggae band The Expanders, in 2021 he moved to Morro Bay, CA. and has spent the years since performing up and down the Central California Coast with his acoustic reggae/rocksteady/traditional ska group Man Like Devin & The Relatives.

Devin has been involved in Reggae music for over 25 years. In 1999 he co-founded Los Angeles roots-reggae group The Expanders. They spent the next decade playing in and around the L.A. area as part of the city's then-thriving ska, rocksteady and early reggae scene. During that time they also performed throughout California as the backing band for many of their Jamaican musical heroes including Alton Ellis, Leonard Dillon of The Ethiopians, The Wailing Souls, The Maytones, Pat Kelly, Roy Shirley, Stranger Cole, Prince Jazzbo, Willi Williams, The Cables, and Winston Jarrett.

Morrison & The Expanders (members inlclude John Butcher, Chiquis Lozoya, John Asher & Roy Fishell) released four studio albums together from 2011-2018, the latter two of which debuted at number one on the Billboard Reggae Chart. During that time Morrison also teamed up with longtime friend DJ Hoppa and emerging Las Vegas MC Dizzy Wright to release a tune entitled "Vampire Bite."

In 2018 Morrison began writing a solo acoustic record and teamed up with long-time friend Roger Rivas (The Aggrolites, Long Beach Dub Allstars, Jason Mraz) to record it. At one of these initial sessions in the fall of 2018 Rivas mentioned to Morrison that the guitar position in Long Beach Dub All Stars might be vacant. With Rivas’s endorsement Morrison played a try-out show with LBDA in Denver, CO and soon afterwards joined the group as an official member. Devin played guitar on half of the songs on their 2019 record Long Beach Dub Allstars. He also contributed his original song “Higher Rank” to the album, and co-write the song “Youth.”

Man Like Devin's first acoustic solo record Wheel And Shoulder: Acoustic Reggae, Rocksteady & Ska Vol 1 was recorded released on August 20, 2021 on the Rootfire Cooperative Label. The full-length LP is a completely acoustic album with no electric instruments that features Morrison's GRAMMY-nominated brother Patrick Morrison on upright bass, banjo and lead acoustic guitars, Devin's father Tom Morrison of harmonica, and The California Honeydrops.
